When God answers prayer it is a blessing no matter what the answer is—but how exciting it can be when it’s a YES!
A winter storm and I’m on my way to church. The roads are glossed with ice and slush. Both hands are on the wheel and I’m wondering why church wasn’t cancelled. I make it safely, however.
Later that morning I’m sitting in our Sunday School class oscillating between lingering thoughts of work stress and why church hadn’t been cancelled. For the last couple of weeks, I have been rather stressed about a film production for International Aid, a set of long commercials intended to dramatically tell stories about the impact of our mission. What had me worried wasn’t the work or any of the elements of the actual filming, but securing people as actors and models for the stories. This time of year is very busy for most of us and to secure several people for the shoot was the challenge.
For the 3 stories I needed 9 people. I had all but three of them. And the three I didn’t have were those for the one story that had the most drama impact. I needed African Americans that looked more like Africans than Americans. So I sat in the class chair wondering what I was going to do, wondering if I was going to have to cancel the best story out of the three. And then it happened, an answer to prayer:
For some strange reason an instant flash of a newsletter I had done nearly a year ago flashed in my mind. It was the cover picture of one of our Hygiene Kit Packing Events. There were several people in the picture but my internal vision zeroed in on the one, unassuming individual who was near the end of the line of people, and wasn’t the focus in the picture really. The flash of that image was instant but profound. Somehow a simple confidence rose within me and I thought, “Oh, I bet Andre could be one of the actors, and maybe he has a wife that will be willing too.”
I got ahold of his phone number and called, and wouldn’t you know—he was very willing to help out with the production and had time to do it on the scheduled days I had chosen. He also indicated that his wife was willing as well. What an answer to prayer!
What an amazing God we have, that He would care about some of the smallest things in our lives, however important we may make them. I am excited to testify to the answer of my prayer and His goodness all the time, and even when His answer is, “No.”
All glory to God in the highest!
