Phil Petersen and Glen Miller were just two normal people in love with music. Combining their love for guitar, they united to form “Acoustic Oasis.”
Last year, along with many of us, they received the news that devastating hurricanes were bringing wreckage to countless lives. Inspired to do whatever they could to help, they decided to use their passion for music for a greater good.
Together they decided to create an event.
This event began with the purpose of bringing people together to raise money for those affected by the natural disasters.
Feeling that International Aid was a worthy organization to invest the money in, they created, hosted, and played for their event. Through this event the two men raised $1,800 of support! (Click here to watch a video on the event!)
At the event Glen encouraged everyone to engage in their own gifts for a cause greater than themselves.
Their story is an inspiration.
These two men don’t inspire simply because of their love for music. They took something they were passionate about and used it to create an event raising money to spark change in lives around the world. That’s inspirational!
We may not all be talented singers or able to play music on the guitar (or any instrument, for that matter!). But we all do have specific passions and loves gifted to us by God. He knows where we will be most effective and what talents we need in order to be effective.
Maybe you’re passionate about starting fundraising events as well. Maybe the thought of hosting an event makes you cringe! But whatever it is for you, embrace your passion.
God does not mindlessly give us gifts.
Each of us has a specific gift to be used for the greater good. Sit back and think about it. What’s your gift? How might God be calling you to use it?
We’d love to hear! Drop us a comment below.
You never know where dreaming may take you!
