Director, Surgical Skills Training Center (SSTC), Ghana
REPORT TO: VP of International Programs
SUMMARY OF POSITION
This position will be responsible for the management and operation of the SSTC.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Prepare annual strategic plan and budget
- Serve as chairperson of the SSTC advisory board; arrange for meetings; responsible for all board communication including preparation of board by laws, structure, roles and responsibilities
- Develop and implement all operational policies and procedures and ensure compliance with all laws, regulations, and medical/ educational standards
- Participate in development of programs and curricula, including identifying needs and interests from other health delivery organizations
- Determine staffing needs for the various training courses offered in the SSTC.
- Recruit and coordinate all staff including physicians, nurses, support staff, contract staff.
- Negotiate salaries and contracts for staff at SSTC in coordination with supervisor/ HQ staff.
- Coordinate all physician activities and communication with physicians.
- Recruit participants/students of all courses.
- Maintain the master schedule of all SSTC activities
- Manage each SSTC course and event, including staffing, food, classroom, equipment, supplies, animals, cadavers, participant logistics, ceremonies, etc.
- Plan/arrange/negotiate accommodations, transportation, meetings and receptions for all SSTC participants, instructors and guests.
- Maintain files of the SSTC, including participant records and files
- Develop and implement a marketing/ PR plan
- Participate in recruitment and relationship management of corporate sponsors.
- Actively procure equipment and supplies to be used at SSTC in conjunction with IA HQ
- Manage all logistics activities at SSTC.
- Manage the inventory system of equipment, consumables, and supplies
- Prepare monthly report for IA HQ and Advisory Board
- Coordinate financial systems management with the IA accountant and IA HQ Finance Department, including: banking, local purchasing, payroll and timekeeping, accounts payable, tuition/rental fee determination and collection, petty cash, monthly reconciliations, month financial reports, documentation/receipts, chart of accounts
- Prepare monthly cash request
- Arrange and supervise the cleaning and maintenance of all SSTC equipment and the facility
- All other duties as assigned by supervisor/ HQ staff.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelors degree in business or health administration or 5 years equivalent work experience, Masters degree preferred
- 5 years in leadership/ management role
- Great communication skills both written and oral
- Can maintain a flexible schedule to accommodate needs of business
- Strong organizational skills
- French as a second language preferred.
- Previous West African experience preferred.
- Proactive approach and positive attitude in working with other departments on cross-functional work assignments
- Personal commitment to the mission and vision of IA
- Must reside in Accra, Ghana
