As we closed our 2015 Fiscal Year (June 30th at midnight), and begin a new year, we are continually reminded of the many blessings that God has provided International Aid with. Recently, one our Health Products Partner Development Managers had the opportunity to visit with a partner in South Dakota. Below please read of her time spent with our partners and the amazing impact that together we are making!
Rapid City, South Dakota is the home to one of two of National Relief Charities distribution centers. National Relief Charities is one of International Aid’s largest domestic partners. As a whole they serve 58 reservations through 1,000 different program partners which serve approximately 200,000 people per year.
Over the past few years, International Aid has been able to support many of their programs through supplying items like protein bars, cleaning supplies, personal care items, and other miscellaneous household items. Last year alone 650 pallets of product were provided for distribution through their programs.
Recently, while visiting, I was introduced to eight of National Relief Charities’ partner programs who receive and distribute products that are received from International Aid. Each program had a unique mission though the vision was the same: to improve the quality of life for many Native Americans living on remote northern and southwest plains. Their team’s passion to serve and making a lasting impact was obvious.
While talking with National Relief Charities Service Coordinator, Candi Acker, she shared a story about the impact one item had on a young 7-8 year old boy enrolled in one of their partners’ literacy programs. As an incentive, participants are able to earn points and redeem them for a variety of items. From a shelf lined with toys and coloring books, this little boy redeemed his points on a basic item that his family needed: toilet paper. At the risk of ridicule from his peers and neglecting himself of toys, something we oftentimes believe every little boy deserves, he thought first of his family. His bold and unashamed choice sparked a change of heart for many in the class. Who, after him, followed suit.
Sometimes it is easier to do what others do and risk stepping out and being different. But oftentimes, it’s the different, the bold, the unashamed, who make the difference. On behalf of the staff at International Aid and our partners, like National Relief Charities, thank you for standing out, being bold, and unashamedly supporting the cause of the gospel of Jesus Christ with us. Your support has impacted many and we couldn’t do what we do without you!
